Honorable Mention (just sharing) Poem Written by Marafae (about a faerie princess who was told by her parents to dress in her butterfly costume her grandmother so carefully made for her. You see this faerie liked to go though the gateway and visit the humans but her folks worried she'd get found out, wearing the costume was supposed to keep her safe, but it was hot and scratchy and she didn't like to so she'd wear it only until they couldn't see her and then she would take it off. She was a typical teenager! Read the poem and see if you can just visualize what happened. Enjoy, Marafae

As I awoke, I rubbed my eye….
Then peeked out to see, what I might spy
Over the petal and past a leaf
I caught red handed a costume thief.
I was out of my suit, my mother would scold……
I hadn’t listened to what I was told.
It was hot and scratchy, I could take no more;
So I slipped it off and it fell to the earth floor.
The petals felt soft and I stretched out my wings…..
I looked above at the marvelous things.
Don’t know when it happened, I drifted away….
To dream land upon a flower that day.
But now the sun's begun to set,
If I'm late, they'll be mad I bet...
So, naked I leap off the flower and fly…
But low to the ground, not high in the sky
I must catch that thief, and do it fast
For he’s got my clothes and daylight won't last.
My butterfly costume Granny Fae made for me…
When away from home, I’d be safe, you see.
Earthlings would think me a butterfly….
Allowing me passage in the sky…..
But a thief has snatched it and gone bye bye…
So I must fly fast, and catch that guy.
A rascal, a joker he seems to be,
Trying to snatch my suit from me
I go as fast as my wings will fly
I grab his tail and look him in the eye.
He isn’t ashamed of what he did…
His full of mischief and likes to kid.
I grab back my suit and hold it near,
And watch him scurry off, then disappear.
Now I dress one leg at a time….
Don’t wish my Mom to discover my crime
She’d lecture and fuss and I’d feel bad.
Worse of all, she’d tell my dad.
They would say, it’s for my own good
For safety, wear it always I should…
But I was careful, I didn’t get caught…
Besides it was so uncomfortably hot…
They worry a lot yet love me so much..
But I crave those petal’s velvety touch…
The freedom I feel when I’m out of my clothes
I lay among the flowers and wiggle my toes
Someday I’ll be Queen and then I’ll declare
No butterfly costumes will I ever wear!
They’ll place the crown upon my head, someday
Then I’ll do things, in my own way!!
